Prevention of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation in the critical adult patient

Objective: to analyze the knowledge and nursing interventions in the prevention of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation in critically ill adult patients. Method: Documentary review of 15 scientific articles with content analysis. Results and conclusion: The knowledge and interventions of the nursing staff for the prevention of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation is adequate for the care of the ventilated adult critically ill patient. In relation to knowledge, the study identified that the nursing staff maintains a medium to high range regarding the necessary interventions for the prevention of VAP.
