Objective: The objective of the study was to identify the main treatments for sensitivity after dental whitening. Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out where documents published in the last five years that include information related to the subject were considered, such as PubMed, MedLine and Scielo magazines. Results and conclusions: Fluoride has been shown to be effective in combating sensitivity, as have fluoride-containing toothpastes that are widely used in the treatment of sensitivity. Thus, the combination of fluoride and desensitizing toothpastes containing potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride show an acceptable effect in reducing sensitivity to whitening. Regarding the use of desensitizing gels, the observed results were satisfactory, highlighting potassium nitrate. However, to choose the most effective treatment method, it is necessary to carry out an individual assessment of each patient.
