Abstract

Objective: To perform a critical review of the literature on the early treatment of crossbite. Methods: systematic review. Results: The existence of multiple treatment options was evidenced, which according to the reports of the reviewed studies had good success and effectiveness rates. Of the 10 articles selected for the review, 6 were randomized controlled clinical trials and 4 were observational, cross-sectional studies. No article showed compliance with all the criteria according to the Consort statement or the Strobe8 criteria and the greatest weaknesses were shown in the methodological aspects, reporting of results and discussion. Conclusion: The evidence regarding orthodontic treatments for crossbite in this study was homogeneous in terms of their effectiveness.
