Abstract

Objective: To determine the use of antibiotics in children after extraction of deciduous teeth by physiological exfoliation. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional observational study. Results: Of the 232 dentists surveyed, more than 85% said that they did not prescribe antibiotics for extractions of deciduous teeth by physiological exfoliation, which was higher than the percentage who agreed to prescribe them. The majority of the respondents were female, and by means of the ODDS RATIO calculation it was found that there was a 71 % probability that they would send antibiotics post-extraction. Conclusion: It was found that the staff working in rural areas is 4 times less likely to send antibiotics to their patient after an exodontia of a deciduous tooth by physiological exfoliation, this may be due to the fact that the professional knows and understands the socioeconomic situation present in the place.
