Abstract

A clinical case is presented in the regional teaching hospital Ambato - Ecuador, where it is concluded that the use of conventional volume-controlled invasive mechanical ventilation, high-flow mask and pharmacological therapy, which are protocols proposed by the WHO, yielded encouraging results, mainly in young adult patients without pre-existing comorbidities, which presents a valid option for certain patients to overcome severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, which is the main characteristic in severe patients infected by the SARS COV-2 virus that triggers COVID-19. This together with the treatment plan that included; continuous hemodynamic monitoring, as well as analgesia, antibiotic therapy, COVID-19 prophylaxis protocol, and complementary laboratory tests helped for the optimal recovery of patient N/N who is one of the first cases that overcame invasive mechanical ventilatory therapy.
