Abstract

The reading habit in basic education is a relevant factor for the development of students' communicative skills. The purpose of this review is to present the current condition of reading habits in regular elementary school students in LATAM. The methodology consisted in developing an exhaustive review of scientific articles related to the subject in the Scielo and Scopus databases, using selection and exclusion criteria. A total of 11 articles published between 2019 and 2023 were collected for their corresponding analysis. It was concluded that research related to the promotion of the reading habit in Latin America is in a positive trend with respect to its production; however, many of these publications indicate the need to promote reflective reading, added to a proposal of strategies that promote the reading habit, since they have a significant impact on learning processes.
