Nursing care for cancer patients with colostomies: integrative literature review

Objective: Systematize and define, based on scientific evidence, nursing care for cancer patients with colostomies. Methods: A predominantly qualitative, descriptive, and applied research study was conducted, based on a literature review and documentary analysis of scientific articles, books, and theses indexed in SciELO, PubMed, Dialnet, and LILACS. Results: The care is oriented toward comprehensive well-being through patient and family education on diet, stoma hygiene, use of devices, skin care, clothing, sexuality, and social and work reintegration, in addition to monitoring behavioral changes such as anxiety or denial and providing ongoing emotional support. Conclusions: Comprehensive care and empathetic communication are essential to promote autonomy and adaptation.
