Abstract

Objective: To analyze the use of the emergency contraceptive pill in adolescents as a threat to health well-being. Method: Descriptive documentary, 15 articles published in PubMed, Scopus were reviewed. Conclusion: The use of the emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) in adolescents, although effective for the prevention of unwanted pregnancies, poses important risks to the health well-being of this population, especially when its use is frequent and without proper medical supervision. Adverse hormonal effects, alteration of the menstrual cycle, and the false sense of security that can decrease the use of regular contraceptive methods and increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), highlight the need for a comprehensive preventive approach.
