Abstract

This work aims to establish the parallels between the autobiography Before nightfall, by the Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas, and the Celestino novel before dawn, by the same author. The theoretical support used is the considerations that autobiography, as a scriptural genre, has put forward George May. Likewise, the ideas expressed by Philippe Lejeune in relation to the pact established by the autobiography reader with the autobiographer are reviewed. The most notorious conclusion reached is that Celestino ... although it is a fictional work, identified with the novel's cognomento, it has very marked autobiographical features.
