Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze gamification and engagement in online higher education through a systematic review. The methodology consisted of a qualitative documentary study, employing systematic review and content analysis as techniques, and data sheets combined with analysis matrices as instruments. Furthermore, the PRISMA statement was followed, leading to the selection of 15 articles indexed in Scopus, Scielo, and Web of Science. Among the findings, it was determined that gamification contributes to an interactive, motivating, engaging, and collaborative process that helps learners focus on their learning. In conclusion, it was found that the application of gamified strategies facilitates meaningful learning in areas such as mathematics, science, and languages, in addition to promoting the development of reading skills across different educational levels.
