Salud mental en el rendimiento académico de escolares adolescentes

Resumen

El propósito de este estudio fue determinar la relación entre ansiedad, y depresión con el rendimiento académico en estudiantes adolescentes de nivel secundario de una Institución Educativa del distrito de Trujillo, Perú. Se realizó un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia, seleccionando a 164 estudiantes entre 13 y 17 años, 77 hombres y 87 mujeres. Se aplicaron dos instrumentos: el Inventario de Ansiedad de Beck (BAI) y el Inventario de Depresión de Beck (BDI-II) con un nivel de confiabilidad de 0.951 y 0.955 respectivamente. Los resultados con Rho Spearman mostraron que la ansiedad y la depresión se relacionan de manera significativa (p<0.01) con el rendimiento académico, presentando coeficientes de correlación negativos -0.653 para ansiedad y –0.898 para depresión, es decir, a mayor ansiedad o depresión, menor rendimiento académico. Como conclusión es fundamental abordar la salud mental de los estudiantes adolescentes como parte integral de su desarrollo académico y personal.
