Abstract

This paper details the importance of graffiti from its origin until it reaches a contemporary period. In addition, the factors and agents involved in the process were denoted. The objective of the research was to analyze graffiti from an epistemological-evolutionary perspective because research on the subject of study in Latin America is limited. The study went through a non-experimental methodological design, with belonging to a qualitative approach, since it is intended to examine the way in which the citizens perceive the phenomenon. The ethnographic research design explored the origin and evolution of these social groups with different cultural and symbolic features. As a main result, the observation technique was denoted as a graffiti grading instrument under criteria determined by experts. It was concluded that the subject of study is a neutral proposal in meaning. In turn, according to the regulatory regulations of Ecuador, it is judged under the principles of illegality. For this reason, graffiti have been a subject of great debate, but at the same time of great interest for its impact on society.
