Assessment of research skills according to the profile of artificial intelligence use in higher education

Artificial intelligence (AI) has experienced rapid growth, establishing itself as a strategic resource for higher education. This study aimed to examine the research competencies of university students based on their AI usage profile, in order to generate information that supports decision-making in curricular and academic management. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive approach was employed, with a sample of 70 students selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. A validated questionnaire was applied to measure research competencies and frequency of AI use. The results show high AI usage, with the greatest impact on information analysis and interpretation, and a lesser effect on problem formulation and theoretical grounding. It is concluded that promoting a more critical and reflective use of AI in academic research is necessary.
