Food insecurity in Latin America in the post-pandemic: systematic review

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a threat that directly affects the health and economy of the person, country, continent, hitting one more than others; Asia being the continent that spread the virus, however Latin America is considered as its epicenter, due to the greater number of registered cases; affecting to a greater extent Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. The objective of the review is to analyze the impact generated by the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of food security in Latin America. Twelve (12) scientific articles in Spanish, English and Portuguese from Scopus and Scielo were analyzed, using the Prisma method, with inclusion and exclusion criteria, with articles published between 2021 and 2023. Among the results obtained, it is concluded that the confinement produced by COVID-19 originated and triggered Food Insecurity (FI). Comprehensive and articulated public policies are recommended to address food insecurity (FS).
