Abstract

Research has shown that the abandonment of studies by young people is a reality that affects the whole of society, because with this tough decision, potential great talents are lost. In this sense, this work aims to determine the causes that affect the dropout rate of upper elementary school students, in order to propose a possible solution. The research is of a mixed approach. It was found that family disintegration, economic and social problems are the main causes of school dropout. It was also determined that to counteract this problem, there must be institutional and public policies that empower members of the educational community, on the importance of young people completing their studies. In this context, it has been proposed to motivate each student to consider her life project, so that she does not abandon her studies for other activities.
