A unified chain-of-custody procedure in the Peruvian criminal justice system. A systematic review

The objective of this article was to analyze the unified chain-of-custody procedure in the Peruvian criminal justice system through a systematic review. The methodology employed a qualitative, documentary approach. To this end, a systematic review was used as the technique, and analysis matrices were used as instruments. Furthermore, the PRISMA statement was used as a method for selecting 15 articles from the following databases: Scielo, Scopus, and Web of Science. The results indicated that there is a clear need to implement a unified chain-of-custody procedure applicable to all judicial and/or administrative proceedings, in both the civilian and military jurisdictions. In conclusion, the application of the chain-of-custody procedure in judicial and administrative proceedings, in both the civilian and military jurisdictions, ensures the proper evaluation of physical evidence while respecting the principle of legality.
